Reversi: how to play
Reversi is the classic flipping game. Mogi takes on a new opponent in every level, from greedy Bruno on a small 6×6 board to the Glitch Bot, which looks three moves ahead. Place a disc so it traps a line of the other side's discs between two of yours, and the whole line flips to your colour. Most discs at the end wins.
How to play
- You move first. Place a disc so that one or more straight lines (across, down or diagonal) of your opponent's discs sit between it and another of your discs. Every trapped disc flips.
- Soft dots show where you can play. Tap a square, or use the arrow keys and Enter or Space.
- If you can't flip anything, you must pass. When neither side can move, the side with more discs wins.
- A lost game costs one of your three hearts and you get a rematch. A draw is played again, with no heart lost.
- Each flipped disc scores 2 and each corner you take 25, plus a bonus for every win.
The five levels
- Neon City: 6×6 vs Bruno, who grabs the most flips
- Rooftops: 8×8 vs Kip: no move means you pass
- Sewer: corners can never flip back; Sewer Bot looks 2 moves ahead
- Robot Factory: 4 steel blocks: no disc goes there, and lines stop at them
- Glitch Zone: win by 10 or more discs against a bot that looks 3 ahead
Clear the Glitch Zone and the levels loop again with opponents that look further ahead (up to 3 moves) and make 40% fewer careless moves. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- Take the corners: a disc there can never be flipped back.
- Avoid the squares next to an empty corner, as they hand it to your opponent.
- Early on, fewer discs is often better: it leaves your opponent with fewer moves.
Questions
What happens if I win by less than 10 in the Glitch Zone?
It doesn't count as a win yet, but it isn't a loss either: the game is played again with no heart lost.
What do the steel blocks do?
From the Robot Factory on, four squares are steel. Nobody can play there, and a line of discs can't flip across them.
Do the opponents get easier if I keep losing?
A little: every new game in a level makes your opponent slip a bit more.
Is it free?
Yes. Reversi is free in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download.
