Crazy Eights: how to play

Crazy Eights is the classic race to empty your hand. You play against Byte, Kip and Mogi, every player for themselves, with seven cards each. Match the top card by suit or number, play an eight to change the suit, and be the first one out. Each level adds one action card, until aces turn wild in the Glitch Zone.

How to play

• Everyone gets 7 cards and one card starts the pile. On your turn, play a card with the same suit or number as the top card.
• Eights are wild: play one on anything, then pick the new suit with the suit buttons (or keys 1–4).
• Can't play? Draw from the deck: tap it, or press DRAW or D. After three draws with nothing to play, your turn passes. When the deck runs out, the pile is shuffled back in.
• Tap a card to play it, or use ← → and Enter.
• Go out first to clear the level. If someone else does, you lose one of your three hearts only if you're left with the most cards (a tie counts); otherwise it's a new deal.

The five levels

1. Neon City: match the suit or number; eights are wild
2. Rooftops: a two makes the next player draw 2
3. Sewer: a jack skips the next player
4. Robot Factory: a queen turns the play around
5. Glitch Zone: aces are wild as well as eights

Clear the Glitch Zone and the levels loop again with opponents making a quarter fewer careless plays. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.

Tips

• Save your eights for when you're stuck: they fit on anything.
• Watch the card counts, and hit a player who's nearly out with a two or a jack.
• When you change the suit, pick the one you hold most of.

Questions

When do I lose a heart?

Only when someone else goes out first and you're left holding the most cards (ties count as most). Otherwise the cards are simply dealt again.

Can I stack twos?

Yes. From the Rooftops on, if a two is played at you, answer with your own two and the next player has to draw 4. If you can't, you draw the cards and miss your turn.

Do the other players get easier?

A little: every new deal in a level makes them slip more, so a run of bad cards never stops you for good.
