Golf Solitaire: how to play

Golf Solitaire is a quick, simple patience game, hosted by Bruno. Seven columns of cards sit face up; play their top cards onto one pile, each one rank higher or lower than the last, and clear all seven columns to clear the level. Every deal is checked by a solver, so it can always be won.

How to play

• Play the top card of any column onto the pile if it's one rank higher or one lower, in any suit. Tap the column, or press 1–7.
• No move? Turn a card from the stock onto the pile (tap the stock, or press TURN A CARD, D or ↓) and carry on from that card.
• Play cards one after another for a run (up to ×10): each card scores 10 × the level number × the run. Turning a card ends the run.
• Clear all seven columns to clear the level. Every card still in the stock adds to your bonus.
• If the stock is empty and no card fits, you're stuck: you lose one of your three hearts and the same deal starts again.
• Keyboard: ← → pick a column and Enter plays it.

The five levels

1. Neon City: 5 cards a column; king and ace touch
2. Rooftops: no wrap: king and ace don't touch
3. Sewer: nothing goes on a king: turn a new card
4. Robot Factory: deeper columns of 6 cards (king and ace touch again)
5. Glitch Zone: only the top card of each column shows

Clear the Glitch Zone and the levels loop again with only the top card of each column showing. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.

Tips

• Look for long chains, like 7-8-9-8-7, before you play: the longest line saves stock cards.
• Don't rush to the stock. Every card left there is worth a bonus at the end.
• Free up columns that hide awkward cards, like kings when nothing can go on them.

Questions

Is every Golf Solitaire deal winnable?

Yes. Each deal is checked by a solver before you get it.

Do suits matter?

No. Only the rank counts: one higher or one lower, any suit.

What does "king and ace touch" mean?

In Neon City and the Robot Factory the ranks wrap round, so a king can go on an ace and an ace on a king.
