Cribbage: how to play
Cribbage, the classic two-player card game of fifteens, pairs and runs, hosted by Kip. Each level is a short race against a new opponent: first to 31 in Neon City, then 41, 51 and 61, with the sharpest bot waiting in the Glitch Zone.
How to play
- You each get 6 cards. Pick 2 for the crib, then press TO THE CRIB (or C). The crib belongs to the dealer, and the deal swaps every hand.
- A starter card is turned up. If it's a jack, the dealer scores 2.
- Pegging: take turns playing cards onto a running count up to 31. Making 15 or 31 scores 2, a pair 2 (three of a kind 6, four 12), and a run of three or more 1 a card.
- Can't play without passing 31? That's a go: the last player before the count restarts scores 1, and so does the very last card.
- The show: each 4-card hand counts with the starter: 2 for each fifteen and each pair, 1 a card for runs, 4 for a flush (5 if the starter matches) and 1 for nobs, the jack of the starter's suit. The crib counts last, for the dealer.
- Tap cards, or use ← → and Enter. Reach the target first to clear the level; if your opponent does, you lose one of your three hearts and start a new game.
The five levels
- Neon City: vs Bruno, first to 31: make 15 or 31 for 2
- Rooftops: vs Byte, first to 41: pairs and runs score in play and in hand
- Sewer: vs Sewer Bot, first to 51: the crib counts for the dealer
- Robot Factory: vs Factory Bot, first to 61: look out for nobs
- Glitch Zone: vs Glitch Bot, the sharpest yet, first to 61
Clear the Glitch Zone and the levels loop again with opponents that make 40% fewer careless plays. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- Keep cards that make fifteens together, like a 5 with a 10 or a face card.
- Don't throw a 5 into your opponent's crib: it makes 15 with every 10-point card.
- When pegging, avoid leaving the count on 5 or 21.
Questions
Why are the games so short?
Full cribbage races to 121; Mogi's levels race to 31, 41, 51 and 61, so each game takes minutes.
Who deals?
Your opponent deals the first game in each level, so you count first. Then the deal swaps every hand.
Does my opponent get easier if I lose?
A little: every new game in a level makes them slip more.
Is it free?
Yes. Cribbage is free in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download.
