Word Guess: how to play
A daily word guessing game hosted by Bruno. Find the hidden word in a set number of tries: after each guess, the tiles turn green, yellow or grey to show how close you are. There's one word per level, from a 4-letter warm-up with seven tries to a 5-letter Glitch Zone word with only five, and everyone gets the same words each day.
How to play
- Type a word on your keyboard, or tap the on-screen keys, and press Enter. Backspace (⌫) deletes a letter. Each guess must be a real word of the right length.
- Green: right letter, right place. Yellow: the letter is in the word, somewhere else. Grey: it's not in the word. The keyboard keys colour in too.
- Solve the word to clear the level. It scores 100 points × the level number × (tries left + 1), so a quick solve scores most.
- Run out of tries and the word is shown, you lose one of your three hearts, and you get a new word.
- Every letter types, so press Esc (or the SOUND button) to turn the sound off or on.
The five levels
- Neon City: a 4-letter word, 7 tries
- Rooftops: 5 letters, 6 tries
- Sewer: hard mode: every guess must use the clues you've found
- Robot Factory: 6 letters, 6 tries
- Glitch Zone: 5 letters, only 5 tries
Clear the Glitch Zone and the levels loop again with one try fewer for every word (never fewer than 4). You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press Esc to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- Open with a word full of common letters, such as E, A, R, S and T.
- Outside hard mode, use a guess to test new letters rather than repeat the ones you know.
- Watch the keyboard: grey letters are out, so don't type them again.
Questions
What is hard mode?
In the Sewer, every guess must keep each green letter in its place and use every yellow letter you've found.
How do repeated letters work?
Each letter in the hidden word lights up once. If you guess two Es and the word has one, only one E turns green or yellow.
Is there a new word every day?
Yes. New words every day, the same for everyone, so you can compare scores with SHARE at the end.
Is it free?
Yes. Word Guess is free in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download.
