Halloween Math Games: how to play
Halloween Math is one of the cool Halloween math games you can play free online, hosted by Maple, a twirly autumn-leaf sprite. Answer quick sums to roll your candy wagon down the track and beat a friendly bat to the candy-striped gate. Easy sums come with a candy, pumpkin, leaf or acorn beside them, and each level adds one new idea, from adding in the Pumpkin Patch to missing numbers at the Star Castle.
How to play
- To play these Halloween math games online, type the answer with the number buttons under the game, or the number keys on a keyboard. The answer checks itself as soon as every box is filled: no Enter needed.
- Made a slip before the last digit? ⌫ or Backspace deletes a digit, and CLR, Delete or Esc clears the answer.
- Every right answer rolls your candy wagon towards the gate. The bat flies at the speed of the level clock: get the level's right answers before it reaches the gate. That's 10 in the Pumpkin Patch, 12 in the next three levels and 14 at the Star Castle.
- A wrong answer costs one of your three hearts, and Maple shows the right answer for a moment while the clock waits. If the bat reaches the gate first, you lose a heart and the clock starts again; the answers you already got still count.
- Each right answer scores 10 points × the level number × your streak (up to ×10), plus up to 50 bonus points for answering in under 3 seconds. Clearing a level adds 100 × the level number and 5 points for every second left.
- Each level has three stars: clear it, clear it without losing a heart, and beat the target time.
The five levels
- Pumpkin Patch: adding, with a candy, pumpkin, leaf or acorn by every sum: 10 right answers in 45 seconds
- Candy Lane: taking away joins in: watch the sign
- Owl Woods: times tables, from the 2s up to the 12s
- Moon Hill: dividing, and two-step sums like 7 × 6 − 5: times comes first
- Star Castle: missing numbers like ? + 8 = 15
Clear the Star Castle and the levels loop again with bigger numbers and a clock 15% shorter. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- For take-away sums, count up from the smaller number: 46 − 25 is 25 plus how many?
- In a two-step sum, do the times first, then add or take away.
- For a missing number, turn it around: ? × 6 = 42 is the same as 42 ÷ 6.
- Quick answers score more, but a slip costs a heart: in the later levels, take a breath first.
