Halloween Maze: how to play
Halloween Maze is a free online maze game: guide Pip the pumpkin through moonlit hedge mazes, pick up the candy and reach the glowing door before the clock runs out. Every day brings five new mazes, the same for everyone, and each one is a little bigger than the last.
How to play
- Steer Pip with the arrow keys or WASD. On a phone, swipe or use the four buttons under the maze; with a mouse, click the maze on the side of Pip you want to go.
- Pip keeps walking along a path, round the bends, and stops where the path splits. Hold a key to keep going the same way, or press the next way early and Pip turns there.
- Pick up the candy on the way: 50 points each, and 150 more when you get every piece in the maze.
- Reach the glowing door to clear the level: 100 points times the level number, plus 10 for every second left.
- The clock starts a moment after the maze appears. If it runs out, you lose one of your three hearts and get some time back; lose all three and the run ends.
- Three stars per level: reach the door, keep all your hearts, and pick up all the candy.
The five levels
- Pumpkin Patch: a small, easy Halloween maze: candy and the glowing door
- Candy Lane: the door is locked: find the moon key first
- Owl Woods: hollow logs: walk into one and pop out of the other
- Moon Hill: bat gates: wait until the bat folds its wings, then go
- Star Castle: drifting fog hides part of the maze (Pip's glow lights the way), plus the key, logs and bat gates
Clear Star Castle and the mazes loop: lap 2 has bigger mazes with less spare time on the clock, a slightly faster Pip and double points. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- Look before you walk: trace the way from Pip to the door with your eyes first, then go.
- Candy is a bonus. If the clock is low, head for the door and leave the far-off pieces.
- Each pair of hollow logs has the same coloured ring. A log can save a long walk round the maze.
- A bat that starts to wiggle is about to spread its wings: wait for the next turn rather than rush.
