Apple Bobbing Game: how to play

Halloween Apple Bob is a free apple bobbing game for Halloween. Apples bob up and down and drift about a wooden tub of water while Wisp, a friendly marshmallow ghost, floats above it. Slide Wisp over an apple and dip just as it bobs up to the top. Crunch the apple cheers you on from beside the tub. Catch enough apples before the clock runs out to clear each level.

How to play

• Press ← and → (or A and D) to move Wisp over the tub. With a mouse, just move it over the game; on a phone or tablet, drag your finger across the screen. The LEFT and RIGHT buttons under the game work too.
• Press Space (or ↓ or S), click, tap the game or press DIP to dip. Wisp only grabs an apple that is right underneath and near the top of the water, so watch it bob up, then dip.
• A dip that comes up empty splashes and takes 3 seconds off the clock. Catch the level's apples (5 on the first, 10 on the last) before the clock reaches zero.
• If the clock runs out you lose one of your three hearts and get 10 more seconds to finish the level.
• Catches less than 3.5 seconds apart build a combo that multiplies your points, up to ×5. Three stars per level: clear it, clear it with no hearts lost, and clear it under the target time.

The five levels

1. Pumpkin Patch: calm water and just three apples
2. Candy Lane: the apples drift across the tub faster
3. Owl Woods: golden apples count as two, but they bob deeper
4. Moon Hill: floating leaves block a dip: wait for a gap
5. Star Castle: a bigger tub where every splash pushes the apples away, plus everything before

Clear Star Castle and the five places come round again: lap 2 makes the apples drift and bob faster with a little less time on the clock, and lap 3 faster still. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.

Tips

• Don't chase an apple: park Wisp where it is drifting to and wait for it to bob up.
• Dip a moment early: Wisp takes a split second to reach the water.
• Golden apples are worth two apples and more points, but they only come near the top for a short moment.
• In Star Castle a missed dip scatters the apples nearby, so make each dip count.
