Hungry Pumpkin: how to play
Hungry Pumpkin is a free pumpkin game for Halloween. Gobble, a big hungry pumpkin, sits with his mouth open and you toss sweets into it: pull back, let go and watch the sweet fly in a curve over candy fences, under branches and through the breeze. It is a feed the pumpkin game with new little scenes every day, the same for everyone.
How to play
- Drag back from anywhere on the game and let go to toss the sweet. It flies the opposite way to your drag, and the further you pull, the harder you toss. The dotted line shows the start of the curve and the ring round the sweet shows the power.
- With a keyboard, press ← and → (or A and D) to turn the aim, ↑ and ↓ (or W and S) for more or less power, and Space or Enter to toss.
- Land the sweet in Gobble's mouth to feed him. A sweet that lands on the ground or flies away costs one of your three hearts, and you try the same scene again with your aim kept, so you can nudge it.
- Don't keep Gobble waiting: if you don't toss within 20 seconds he gets too hungry and you lose a heart.
- Points: 100 for each sweet times your streak of sweets in a row without a miss (up to ×5), 50 for each golden star candy the sweet flies through, and a level bonus of 200 times the level number. Three stars per level: clear it, keep all your hearts, and grab every star candy.
The five levels
- Pumpkin Patch: three open tosses with a long aim line
- Candy Lane: a candy-cane fence stands in the way: toss over it
- Owl Woods: a branch with a little owl hangs overhead: go under it or round it
- Moon Hill: a breeze pushes the sweet left or right, and the aim dots don't show it
- Star Castle: Gobble bobs up and down on a cloud, so time your toss, plus fences, branches and breezes
Clear Star Castle and the five places come round again with new scenes: lap 2 gives Gobble a smaller mouth and a shorter aim line, and lap 3 smaller and shorter still. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- After a miss the aim stays where it was: change the power or the angle just a little.
- A high, soft lob that drops in from above is easier to judge than a fast, flat throw.
- Sweets bounce off fences, crates and branches, so a bank shot can still land in Gobble's mouth.
- In a breeze, aim a little into the wind. In Star Castle, watch Gobble bob a couple of times before you let go.
