Spell Sketch: how to play
Spell Sketch is a Halloween drawing game: Juniper, a ginger cat in a starry wizard hat, casts the spells while friendly marshmallow ghosts float towards her, each showing a simple shape. Draw that shape anywhere on the screen and every ghost showing it pops into confetti and floats off giggling. It is one of our cosy Halloween games online: no scares, just pumpkins, candy, moons and stars.
How to play
- Each ghost carries a sign with a shape: a flat line —, an upright line |, a V, a hat ^ or a circle O. Draw the same shape anywhere on the play area with your mouse or finger, in one stroke.
- Every ghost whose sign shows that shape takes the spell, so one stroke can pop two or three ghosts at once for a bonus.
- No drawing? Press 1 to 5 (— | V ^ O) or tap the five spell buttons under the game.
- A spell that matches no ghost fizzles: Juniper's wand needs a moment to sparkle again and your streak resets.
- A ghost that floats all the way to Juniper gives her a playful boop and you lose one of your three hearts. Pop a ghost right next to her for a close call bonus.
- Points per ghost grow with the level, the number of shapes and your streak (up to x10). Three stars per level: clear it, clear it with no hearts lost, and clear it under the target time.
The five levels
- Pumpkin Patch: the flat line, the upright line and the circle; Juniper shows each new shape once
- Candy Lane: the V and the hat ^ join in
- Owl Woods: two-shape ghosts: draw both shapes, left to right
- Moon Hill: speedy little ghosts zoom in: pop them first
- Star Castle: a big friendly ghost wants a whole spell of shapes in order; each right shape nudges it back
Clear Star Castle and the five places loop: on lap 2 the ghosts float in 15% faster, more ghosts carry two shapes from Owl Woods on, and the big ghost's spell is two shapes longer (lap 3 a little more again, then it stays there). You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- Draw big and in one smooth stroke: the size and the place don't matter, only the shape.
- A circle doesn't need to close perfectly; a V and a hat just need a clear point.
- Look for the shape most ghosts share and cast it first to pop several at once.
- On two-shape ghosts only the first shape left on the sign counts, so work left to right.
Questions
Is Spell Sketch a scary Halloween game?
No. The ghosts are soft, smiling marshmallow ghosts who giggle when a spell pops them, and the places are pumpkin patches, candy lanes and starry castles. It is a friendly Halloween drawing game for everyone.
Can I play Spell Sketch on my phone?
Yes. Draw the shapes with your finger anywhere on the screen, or tap the five spell buttons. On an upright phone the ghosts float down from the top towards Juniper. It works on phones, tablets and computers with no download.
Why didn't my shape work?
Each stroke is read as one shape. Draw it in one go, a little bigger, with a clear point for V and ^. If no ghost shows the shape you drew, the spell fizzles for a moment.
Is it free?
Yes. Spell Sketch is free in your browser, with no sign-up.
