Halloween Escape Room: how to play
Haunted House Escape is a free online Halloween escape room game: help Wrap the giggly mummy find keys, fill candy jars and crack picture codes to escape five cosy rooms of a friendly haunted house. Things hide in new places every day, the same for everyone, and nothing in the house is scary.
How to play
- Tap or click things in the room to look at them. Wrap tells you what you found, and anything useful goes into your bag under the room.
- To use something, tap it in your bag, then tap where it should go: a key on a door, a jar on the ghost chef, a lantern on the window. Tap two things in your bag to put them together, like candy and a jar.
- Picture locks have wheels: tap a wheel to turn it to the next picture, then press TRY. A wrong code costs 15 seconds.
- Every room has a clock. If it runs out you lose one of your three hearts and get some time back; lose all three and the run ends.
- Stuck? The hint button shows the next step and lights up where to tap. It costs 50 points and the no-hints star, and you never need it: every clue is in the room.
- Keyboard: Tab or the arrow keys move between things, Enter uses the one with the blue ring, 1 to 5 pick from your bag, H asks for a hint and Esc puts things away.
- Three stars per room: escape it, keep all your hearts, and use no hints.
The five levels
- Pumpkin Patch: the front porch: read the note, find the key under the right pumpkin and open the door
- Candy Lane: the candy kitchen: the ghost chef wants a jar of one colour of candy, so find the jar and the candy and put them together
- Owl Woods: the owl library: the owl books on the shelf show the picture code for the door, left to right
- Moon Hill: the moon attic: open the curtains, find the lantern and fill it with moonlight to see the hidden code
- Star Castle: the star tower: one short chain that uses everything, from a key under a pumpkin to a four-picture lock
Clear Star Castle (escape the star tower) and the house starts again: lap 2 hides everything in new places with less time on each clock and double points. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- Read every note first. The porch and tower notes name the exact pumpkin, and the library desk explains the code.
- Tap things twice: the first tap opens a cupboard or a box, the second takes what is inside.
- Wrong candy for the ghost chef? Hand the jar over anyway: the chef gives the jar and the candy back, so you can try again.
- Picture codes always read from left to right, the same way as the glowing pictures or the owl books.
