Brick Breaker: how to play
The classic brick breaker, rebuilt by Mogi. Slide the paddle, bounce the ball and smash every brick in the wall. Each level adds one idea, from armoured bricks and falling power-ups to steel blocks and a wall that creeps down in the Glitch Zone, and the ball gets a little faster each time. Every wall is the same for everyone each day.
How to play
- Move the paddle with the mouse, your finger, or the arrow keys (or A and D).
- Launch the ball with a tap, Space, Enter or ↑. It launches by itself after 3 seconds.
- Where the ball hits the paddle sets its angle: the edges send it out wide, the middle straight up.
- Break bricks one after another without touching the paddle for a combo (up to ×10). Each brick scores 10 × the level number × the combo.
- Lose your last ball and it costs one of your three hearts. The wall stays as it was, so you carry on where you left off.
- Break every brick (steel ones don't count) to clear the level.
The five levels
- Neon City: four rows of bricks
- Rooftops: silver-edged bricks take two hits
- Sewer: power-ups fall: wide paddle, triple ball, slow ball
- Robot Factory: steel bricks never break: go around them
- Glitch Zone: the wall creeps down: clear it before it reaches you
Clear the Glitch Zone and the levels loop again with the ball 15% faster. You have three hearts for the whole run, and the game is
the same for everyone each day, so you can compare scores. Press M to turn the sound off or on.
Tips
- Aim for a gap at the side: a ball that gets above the wall breaks lots of bricks at once.
- Catch the triple ball: you only lose a heart when the last ball falls.
- In the Glitch Zone, clear the lowest row first to buy time.
Questions
What do the power-ups do?
From the Sewer on, a broken brick sometimes drops a capsule. W widens the paddle for 10 seconds, 3 splits the ball into three, and S slows the ball for 8 seconds.
What if the wall reaches me?
In the Glitch Zone the wall steps down every few seconds. If it reaches the line above your paddle, you lose a heart and the wall is pushed back up.
Can I play Brick Breaker on a phone?
Yes. Drag your finger to move the paddle and tap to launch.
Is it free?
Yes. Brick Breaker is free in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download.
